Measurement

Over the past two weeks we have been measuring a variety of objects in our classroom.  Yesterday we used some balance scales to weigh different objects to see which was heavier.  We were pretty good at estimating what would be heavier before checking with the scales.  It was a lot of fun.

We have been learning about writing descriptions of characters.

We have been learning about writing descriptions of characters.  Here are some of our first examples of our writing.

The girl looks at the show.  She looks like she's scared.  She's staring at the show.  Dreshaun.

My Mum works at the airport and we help her clean then we play at her work.  Katrulena

My Mum works at Chiswick.  She cooks the meals.  After work she picks me up and she takes me home and I go on my computer and I play games and I watch movies.  Hayden.

The boy was jumping up and down on the trampoline.  He has red hair and he is happy because he likes jumping up and down..  Seila

Term 1 2013.

This year we are all now Years 2's and most of us have just turned 6 years old.  We have been very busy swimming in our school pool, learning swimming techniques.
We demonstrated our newly acquired skills to our parents at our school swimming carnival and it was very exciting.  Our parents were very proud.

Room 2 have been reading the shared book "The Giant's Ice-Cream."  We enjoyed this story very much and the pictures of ice-cream always made us feel like eating ice-cream.  On Friday we did make our own ice-cream sundaes and we wrote some stories  about them.  Have a read.

Sports with the YMCA.  Room 2 have been lucky to have two YMCA sports educators to take us for ball skills.  At the moment we are doing soccer skills. 


If we hit the cones while dribbling our soccer ball they made us do press-ups.  We like playing soccer.
We don't like press-ups.

Room 2 looked at and wondered about this picture.  This is what we said:
Tuiva - I can see a gorilla looking at the book.
Troy - The gorilla's got feet and toes.
Tyreese - The gorilla is reading.
Keanu - He is reading a book.
Tennisa - I can see the ears.
Max - It looks like he is looking at a monitor.
Pariz - It's looking at the book.
Oshay - Maybe the gorilla's playing a game.
Tuiva - He has yellow on his hair.  you can see his tongue because his mouth is open.
Tyreese - He's thinking because he is playing the game.
Oshay - Maybe he needs help.
Jor-El - I was wondering if he is going to book it.
Oshay - Some gorillas are hard and attack people.
Max - Maybe he's reading in a zoo.
Jor-El - He's looking at it and wondering what it is.
Oshay - I think the gorilla is playing a game and it's purple i board.

Celebrating Matariki


Making Korowai

The Kowhai team have been making korowai cloaks and will be having a parade to celebrate Matariki.  We looked at many different patterns and designs and spent a busy day making our own cloaks.  They look beautiful Room 2.
